Grand Prince Lee In reflects on the connection between Mong-woo/Hee-soo and Myung-ha.
In the King’s palace, news of a spy’s capture in the Qing dynasty surfaces. The King conceals his involvement, allowing ministers to find the culprit. The Minister of War, misled by false information, believes Grand Prince Lee In sent the spy. Lee In’s master, the real sender, asks the King for forgiveness as an envoy.
Lee In confronts his master, who insists on protecting him for the country’s sake. Hee-soo, overhearing, distances herself from Lee In. The day arrives when the master is arrested and taken to the Qing dynasty, leaving the King remorseful. The Minister of War accuses the Grand Prince, despite the King’s knowledge of the truth.
The King permits an interrogation, leading to the arrest of Baduk players and a comfort woman. Hee-soo disguises herself to join but is stopped by Myung-ha, who fears her torture. Grand Prince intervenes, offering himself for interrogation. The King and Lee In argue, with the latter holding the King’s sword to prevent an attack.
Desperate, Lee In’s brother demands he take the blame for being a spy. The King falls ill from poisoned medicine, urging Lee In to find the culprit. After the King’s death, Lee In manipulates the situation, claiming the throne was offered to him. Faced with accusations, Lee In counters with false testimonies and challenges any opposition.
Jong-bae, seeking revenge, attempts to force a confession from Hee-soo. Myung-ha insists on interrogating. Lee In, with a plan, counters Jong-bae’s forged confession with witness Hyun-bo, leading to Jong-bae’s execution.
Having bought Hyun-bo’s loyalty, Lee In orders severe punishment for Hee-soo and the comfort woman, resulting in the comfort woman’s death. Hee-soo vows revenge and escapes.
Lee In compels the Queen to become a monk for her son’s safety, relocating Myung-ha, who vows revenge. Three years later, the kingdom prospers. Mong-woo/Hee-soo returns for a Baduk contest, seeking to confront Lee In.
